Students from all over the state rallied on the capitol steps yesterday to protest cuts to higher education. Over a thousand students from Louisiana's colleges protested the legislature's proposed $114 million dollar cuts and were greeted by Governor John Bel Edwards who told them he stands with them and together they could stop these "devastating cuts". UNO Student Government Vice President Jessica Willis said the rally was a reminder to lawmakers that college students vote, and were watching their elected officials closely. The state legislature remains in special session trying to deal with Louisiana's enormous budget shortfall.
