Kevin Smith Will Return to Direct More ‘Supergirl’ This Year
Two Flash episodes under his belt (jorts?) give Kevin Smith a fair shot not to have bungled 2017 Supergirl return “Supergirl Lives” next week, and it seems The CW would agree. Smith will apparently be back to direct another episode, before Season 2 is out.
Smith’s “Supergirl Lives” (a reference in-name to Smith’s abandoned Superman Lives script) will air this coming Monday, even going so far as to feature the Clerks director’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith in a guest role. Ahead of the Sundance Film Festival, Smith also revealed to ComicBook.com that Supergirl had invited him back to direct the seventeenth episode of Season 2:
Monday, the episode of Supergirl that I directed airs, which is thrilling,” Smith said. “I got to Sundance tomorrow and I’m up there for IMDb all week, come home Tuesday, then a few days after that, I go up to Vancouver again to direct another episode of Supergirl.
Also on deck for the back half of Supergirl Season 2, we know DC trickster Mr. Mxyzptlk will be dropping by for two episodes, while another pair of episodes will see Kara re-teaming with The Flash for a musical extravaganza. We’ll also revisit Livewire and Metallo, meet up with those pesky Dominators again, and hopefully check in with Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant.
And so reads the synopsis for Smith’s Supergirl debut:
KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; ROULETTE RETURNS
Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr’s (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver’s Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman).
To make matters worse, Slaver’s Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Alex (Chyler Leigh) blames herself for Kara’s disappearance, fearing she’s become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) and too complacent in watching out for her sister.
It’s uncertain exactly which episode Smith will return for (fingers-crossed, not the musical), but check out the latest trailers for Supergirl’s 2017 premiere in the meantime.
