You can feel the excitement in the air. Mardi Gras is almost here. Every August, the local Mardi Gras Krewes announce their Royalty at a Half Way to Mardi Gras party. At last count there were approximately 17 Mardi Gras Krewes in Shreveport. Think of the economic impact Mardi Gras has on the city of Shreveport.
It's hard to believe that we're halfway to another Mardi Gras season! Well, to celebrate this anniversary of sorts, The Krewe of Centaur Midway to Mardi Gras Coronation Party. It's coming up Saturday night August 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Riverview Hall.
Captain of Asclepius Doug Kochenderfer has been busy and has compiled the latest list of Mardi Gras activities for Krewes in the Shreveport-Bossier City. Just because it is June, doesn't mean we have to wait until January for the Mardi Party to begin.
Had a blast at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. We stayed at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. Our room was on the corner on the 5th floor overlooking Bourbon Street from both sides of the room. That was spectacular

The Krewe of Gemini Parade is getting ready for its culmination event tomorrow. Tonight is the float loading party starts at 5:00 today at the Gemini Den on East Texas in Bossier. The parade is tomorrow afternoon at 4:30pm.

The parade route is the same as last year. The parade will start at the "Parade Start" Banner hanging over Clyde Fant Parkway in Downtown Shreveport at 4:30 Saturday afternoon. The floats will proceed on Clyde Fant Parkway towards Shreveport-Barksdale Hwy and turn left on East Kings Hwy, until the “Parade Ends” sign just north of Preston

Mardi Gras season is definitely here. The Krewe of Sobek rolled through the Queensboro neighborhood over the weekend. More than 70 groups took part in the parade and hundreds lined the streets around the fairgrounds to snap up beads and other throws.
Ten years ago, Bossier City leaders decided they did not want to be part of the parade route for Mardi Gras anymore. Part of the problem was security along the route. The parades rolled from Pierre Bossier Mall down Airline Drive to Barksdale Boulevard and then over the Shreveport Barksdale Bridge
