When I moved back to Louisiana the third time in 2004, one of my favorite things to do was roll the back roads after a long week at work to go visit my brother's family in Heflin, LA. There's just something about the beauty of the back roads in Louisiana. From the lakes, to the trees shading the road, to the wind in your hair with the windows down, Louisiana has some great places to just go and de-stress!

I found a great article at OnlyInYourState.com talking about the best places to get away from it all in Louisiana and two of the spots are within a quick drive from the Shreveport/Bossier metro.  Not only did they list Plain Dealing, Zwolle and Coushatta, they listed several towns I'm going to have to take a long weekend to visit!

While I'm not ready to give up my personal little piece of paradise in Princeton, La, I love visiting Coushatta's Grand Bayou or the gorgeous Wildwood resort in Zwolle, LA. And who can miss the Tamale Fiesta or fishing Toledo Bend in the Zwolle area as well? While I haven't been to Plain Dealing in years, seeing the dogwood trees in full bloom in April is a sight that will soothe your soul!
