I like to watch fireworks. I don't care to shoot them because I am a clumsy idiot and I value my fingers and eyesight. However, when professionals get a hold of black powder and chemicals they can send chills up and down my spine with their colorful combustibles.

This video chronicles a group of fireworks artists who set out to create and detonate the largest firework on this continent. It weighs more than half a ton so you can see this isn't like your typical bottle rocket.

While we often think of fireworks as pure fun there is a lot more pure science involved. There are sciences like physics and chemistry that play a large part in these few seconds of awe.
