So, just when you think everything is going smooth, the me, being the fiscally minded person that I am, had to ask...how much is this going to cost. (Kind of a loaded question, right?)

Keep in mind, I am never scared to speak my mind on anything (a plus and a minus), but leading up to this moment, my butt was puckering. I am thinking, "just my luck" the insurance won't cover my wife's delivery." (I knew this wouldn't be the case, but I have the luck of...well, a bad poker player who keeps plunking down the $1000 chips thinking the next hand is the winner).

Well, I asked the question and heard "your insurance covers...(long pause)...most of it." That isn't what they said, but like most guys, that is what I heard. So my wife and I thought we were savvy in the world of insurance...after all, we already had one child, how much could insurance change in 4 1/2 years? A LOT had changed.

If your insurance covers, 60%, 70%, 80%, etc. guess what, that isn't 60%, 70%, 80%, etc. of the total bill. That is 60%, 70%, 80%, etc. of each individual service in which you take part.

Repeat: NOT the total bill, like it was almost 5 years ago.

Here that has been around for a little while, the co-pays don't go toward your deductible. Nope, that is separate.

Truth is, the cost of having a baby is invaluable, when you consider the little life you are bringing into the world and no price can be put on the best care they could ever receive.

But the price has gone up and that sucks.
