We are just over a week away from the State Fair of Louisiana! Are you excited??

The State Fair of Louisiana is turning 108 this year. That's right, the State Fair first began in 1906. The dates this year are October 23 through November 9. I have to tell you, I cannot wait to experience my first State Fair of Louisiana goodness!

But have you ever wondered where state fairs originated from?

After searching a few sites, I found a common thread. State fairs started in the 19th century as a way to promote agriculture by displaying livestock and products in a competitive exhibition. The first was in Syracuse, New York in 1841. I can only assume this stemmed from the Worlds Fairs that were held in the state.

It wasn't until the Industrial Revolution that the carnival aspect of the whole shebang was added. With this came rides, food, music, and more.

In addition, there are three state fairs in Louisiana; the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair in Baton Rouge, The Cajun Heartland State Fair in Lafayette and of course, the best fair... The State Fair of Louisiana.
