This could only happen in a few select states. The threat of alligators actually made law enforcement's job a lot easier. It happened Thursday in St. Tammany Parish. Deputies with the St. Tammany Sheriff's office were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle.

It was around 3pm on Thursday when deputies noticed two men in a stolen Kia. They pursued the vehicle through a neighborhood on La. Highway 11. The driver of the Kia lost control and the car crashed into a tree.

It was at that point the two men in the vehicle,Gerald Smith, 20, and Tyrin Hamilton, 19, both of New Orleans, attempted to flee officers at the scene. One of the men was taken into custody near the vehicle, the other attempted to swim away from the scene by jumping into a nearby bayou.

The bayous in this area are known for alligators, and deputies informed the man as such,It was at this time, that he swam to the shore and was taken into custody.

That was the quote from the St. Tammany Sheriff's Facebook page.  Obviously, the threat of being eaten by an alligator was more frightening than the threat of being incarcerated.

Both men involved in the incident were charged. Among the charges the men will be facing are possession of stolen things, resisting an officer, possession of a gun by a convicted felon and aggravated flight from an officer.
