Three Great Things About Week 5 on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 18

There was so much good about last night’s Dancing with the Stars, but there were three things that ranked far above the rest: Donny Osmond, Disney Night and James Maslow.

Donny Osmond

Season 9 champion Donny Osmond returned as a guest judge. He told the competitors before their dances that he would be scoring them mainly on the entertainment aspect of their performances, and not so much on the technical.

I've been a fan of Osmond's since he and sister Marie had their own show together when I was but a young lass. I voted for him extensively when he was on DWTS, and was excited when he won - especially seeing his fantastic freestyle dance with partner Kym Johnson.

Osmond did hand out a couple of 10's last night. I did think that judge Bruno Tonioli was a little "touchy-feely" with him, though. And let's not forget about that big ole "smooch" when Donny first arrived in the ballroom. That's something that goes back to Season 9.

Disney Night

Week 5 featured songs - and some animated characters - from popular Disney movies. As the mother of a 5-year-old girl, the Disney princesses are favorites at my house. And there were plenty of those! We saw Jasmine, Ariel, Cinderella, Belle and Elsa from "Frozen." There were also "The Lion King", "The Jungle Book" and "Mary Poppins"-themed performances.

Some of my favorite dances - Charlie White's Jazz to "Super-cali-fragil-istic-expi-ali-docious" from "Mary Poppins," Danica McKellar's Quickstep to "Be Our Guest" from "Beauty and the Beast," Amy Purdy's Waltz to "So This Is Love" from "Cinderella" AND....that brings me to....

James Maslow

The "Big Time Rush" star wowed the crowd - and the judges - with his amazing Contemporary dance to "Let It Go" from "Frozen." His pro partner Peta Murgatroyd even had the Elsa-braid going. And the animation made everything even more exciting - and earned the pair the first perfect score of the season. (That would be a 40, since there were four judges, each giving him a 10!)

What made that performance so great for me was the love my daughter and I have developed for the song (she sings it ALL THE TIME!) and the movie, which we saw at the theater and have watched four or five times since. Couple that with a dynamic Contemporary dance by two people who it's obvious share some adoration for one another, and you know why it scored so high.

And let's face it, ladies...he's James is a hottie! Another reason to absolutely adore him...had he not been working so hard on DWTS, he would have taken a special needs girl to her high school prom. Instead, he bought her and two of her family members tickets to the show, so they could watch him dance live. Isn't that the sweetest?
