We often refer to senior citizens as being in their ‘golden years,’ but Tony Bennett is taking it to a whole new level. In fact, before long, he could be in his platinum years.

At the age of 87, the veteran singer is still reaching new levels of success, breaking a pair of Billboard records with the first single from his ‘Duets II’ album.

Bennett’s duet with Amy Winehouse, ‘Body and Soul,’ debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 last week, making him the oldest living artist ever to place a single on the chart. The song made its mark purely on the strength of digital sales — a healthy 25,000 downloads.

Bennett’s appearance on the chart also snapped a nearly 44-year drought for Bennett, who last scored a Hot 100 hit way back in 1967. That sets the new record for longest gap between singles, an honor that was very recently held by Otis Redding, thanks to his posthumous work with Kanye West and Jay-Z on ‘Otis.’

With a star-studded list of guests that also includes Faith Hill, John Mayer, and Lady Gaga, ‘Duets II’ is also poised to establish another personal high mark for Bennett by becoming the first number one album of his career. We won’t know for sure until the sales numbers come in this week, but either way, he’s having a very good year.
