Tornado Touch Down Confirmed In Dallas Area
A large portion of North Texas, including the Dallas area, was under a severe weather warning as thunderstorms moved through the area and it was confirmed that at least one tornado touched down Sunday evening.
The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado was spotted in the Grand Prairie area Sunday, around 8:45pm.
Just past 9pm the Dallas area National Weather Service posted the following to their Twitter page:
"Although there are currently NO tornado warnings, damaging winds in excess of 60 mph are still possible with these storms."
The tornado warning for both Tarrant and Dallas counties expired a little after 9, however, the area remained under a sever thunderstorm watch. The storms left about 20,000 people in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area without power.
The severe weather was expected to pass through the Dallas area early Monday morning. Rain, albeit not severe, from this weather system was expected to move into the Shreveport, Bossier City area Monday morning around sunrise.
