No one exactly missed True Blood after the Merlotte’s dumpster-fire of those final few seasons, but believe it or not, Bon Temps may live anew on Broadway. HBO has reportedly begun workshopping a stage version of its former flagship vampire soap, with original creator Alan Ball keeping an eye on things.

Reports first surfaced in the New York Post, suggesting that director Pam MacKinnon held an Act 1 workshop crewed by stars Ellen Foley, Claybourne Elder and Ann Harada, with music by series composer Nathan Barr. Young adult fiction writer Elizabeth Scott is covering the book and lyrics, while departed True Blood series creator Alan Ball is “keeping an eye on the stage version.”

The report also notes that a True Blood workshop has only just begun, as even the Act 1 book would require significant cuts. For those unaware, HBO’s True Blood ran from 2008 to 2014 across seven seasons, loosely based on author Charlaine Harris’ The Southern Vampire Mysteries. For the moment, it remains unclear if Harris has any involvement in the stage version.

There’s a long way to go between workshops and actually reaching the Great White Way, let alone to capture the better parts of True Blood, but does a musical adaptation seem worthwhile?
