Bossier City police have arrested a pair of suspects after the two were caught stealing thousands of dollars worth of landscaping equipment from a local school.

Police say 47-year-old Jeffery Darnell and 43-year-old Daren Butler, both of Shreveport, face burglary and resisting charges after officers responded to a burglary alarm at Cope Middle School in the 4800 block of Shed Road early this morning.

Officers saw the two men removing a riding lawn mower from a storage shed behind the school. The two took off running, but police caught up them after a brief foot chase.

Butler's pickup truck was found nearby with several pieces of stolen landscaping equipment in the bed, including grass trimmers, blowers and gas cans. All the property was returned to the school.

Darnell and Butler were booked into the Bossier City Jail, then transferred to the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility.
