The United States launched dozens of cruise missiles at a Syrian airfield in response to a chemical weapons attack that killed dozens of civilians Fox News reports this is the first direct assault on the Syrian government since that country's civil war started 6 years ago.

President Trump addresses  the world from Mar-A-Lago:

Mr. Trump says the missile strikes were in the "vital national security interest" of the United States, and called on "civilized nations" to join the U.S. and seek to "end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syria."

Reports indicate more than 40 tomahawk missiles targeted an airbase at Shayrat, which has apparently been used as a staging area for the deadly chemical attacks this week that left more than 70 civilians, including women and children, dead.

U.S. defense officials tell Fox that two warships based in the eastern Mediterranean, the USS Porter and the USS Ross, have been training for the past two days to execute this mission.
