Everybody (hopefully) knows by the now the danger of over exposure to the sun's harmful UV rays. Obama even slapped a nice little tax on tanning salons to remind folks that if you're going to kill yourself, we need your tax dollars NOW.  Doctors have long recommended slathering on some sun block when going pool side or hitting the links for eighteen holes, and now are saying, "Y'know what? Put that stuff on in your car too."

Dr. Jayne Weiss, Chair of Ophthalmology at LSU Health New Orleans, says side windows in cars only block about 65% of the UV rays. (Side Note - Since some religions believe that Hell is a hot and fiery place, it is often theorized that the Sun is, if not THE Hell, at least a suburb thereof, and the HARMFUL UV rays are actually demons that have come to Earth and sometimes take up residence in human beings in the form of a freckle. This is another reason Gingers are feared.) Dr. Weiss says studies show that people who drive a lot have much higher incidences of cancer of the left side of their bodies. "You're best off to have suntan lotion that blocks UVA and UVB (OMG, IKR?) and having sunglasses that protect your eyes.", she added from the darkened room where she sat behind a velvet curtain, occasionally shooting out a pale, smooth hand to grab a live mouse from the habitat that sat there.

Weiss said the level of protection from car windows can vary from one model to the next, and if you can afford it your best bet is to simply buy yourself a Hearse and move about town in a coffin from May to mid September.

(Editors Note - Parts of this story were fictionalized to make it less mind numbingly dull, and I'm sure Dr. Weiss is a VERY nice woman. No mice were harmed during the typing of this story.)
