Moments after Julia Louis-Dreyfus collected her gabillionth Emmy Award for her role as Selina Meyer on Veep, the show as a whole collected its third Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. Veep is coming to close with a seventh and final season that’s just about to begin shooting, but it’s going out on top. The HBO comedy beat out ABC's black-ish and Modern Family, Netflix's Master of None and Unbreakable Kimmy SchmidtHBO's Silicon Valley, and FX's Atlanta.

2017 marks the third straight Outstanding Comedy Series for Veep, following wins in 2015 and 2016. Veep was also nominated for its first three seasons, losing each time to Modern Family (because Modern Family). So that makes three wins in six seasons for Veep, a damn good batting average by any measure and one of the defining cable comedies of the peak TV era.

The show was created by the great British satirist Armando Iannucci, previously the creator of The Thick of It and In the Loop (and the director of the new film The Death of Stalin, which just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival). Iannucci left his position as showrunner of Veep after its fourth season, and was replaced by David Mandel, but the show hasn’t lost a step, at least as far as the Emmys are concerned.
