In a bizarre twist, a dolphin that had been reportedly attacking swimmers and boaters in a canal in Slidell has been found dead.

According to Fox 8, the rogue dolphin had been seen swimming in the area since Hurricane Katrina. For some reason instead of swimming into the open waters of Lake Pontchartrain, the cetacean-mammal apparently preferred the Lakeshore Estate canal area.

The dolphin was found dead over the weekend, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Fox 8 earlier reported that a teen was bit as he was washing off his hands in the water while standing in his boat. Doctors at Slidell Memorial Hospital have seen two patients come in in the past week and know of another person who was treated for a dolphin bite at a different local hospital.

ER Dr. Lloyd Gueringer said, "This is out of the ordinary. I've never seen it before and I've been practicing emergency medicine for over 30 yrs."

A video from 2012 discusses the issue of the dolphin attracting attention and biting people who get too close.
