Police have released the identity of the man who died following a single-vehicle crash late last night in east Shreveport.

Just before 10 p.m., patrol officers were called to a major accident along a stretch of I-49 South, near the Kings Highway exit. They learned thta 28-year-old Yamil Rivera of Grand Cane died at the scene from injuries suffered after being thrown from his Jeep Cherokee.

Crash scene investigators say Rivera, who was unrestrained, was headed south on I-49, when his vehicle crossed over three lanes of travel and hit the west concrete barrier, causing the Jeep to roll over several times.

Police believe speed may have been a major factor in the accident, but they continue to investigate. They remind you that while all crashes are not survivable, proper seatbelt use can greatly reduce the chance of suffering serious injury or death during many accidents.
