Michael Brewer threw for 344 yards, 227 of those to Isaiah Ford and Virginia Tech Coach Frank Beamer ended his legendary career with a win, as the Hokies topped Tulsa 55-52 Saturday in the Camping World Independence Bowl.

Beamer, 69, ended his 29 years at the school with a record of 238-121-2, which included 23 straight bowl appearances.

Tusa rallied from 21 points down to get within three with just under four minutes remaining, but the Hokies held off the Hurricanes on their final drive.

The 107 total points were an I-Bowl record, as were Ford's 227 yards on 12 catches. Tulsa's Dane Evans tossed for 374 yards and a trio of scores.
