Time lapse photography, when done right, can be breath taking. This time lapse video by Randy Halverson features actual photos, but taken in a way the naked eye could never capture.

The video is made up of thousands of 20-30 second exposures, that have been edited together to produce the time lapse effect. In the video, you'll be able to see the Milky Way, Aurora Northern Lights, and other natural phenomena.

According to Ray Halverson's vimeo, most of the video was shot near the White River in central South Dakota during September and October 2011, there are other shots from Arches National Park in Utah, and Canyon of the Ancients area of Colorado during June 2011.
