More and more women own guns these days. I've been thinking about buying a gun, but I really don't know much about it.

GUN ADVICE

I've been to Shooters Bossier a couple of times and I did shoot a few different kinds of guns. But to be honest with you they still scare me. Listeners gave me advice, but I wanted an expert opinion. I'm not sure if I really need a gun. So many of my friends have guns. I was quite surprised to find out how many have guns.

WHAT THE EXPERT SAYS

We caught up Tom Gresham, the host of the nationally syndicated show "Gun Talk" to get his advice. Tom says the best advice he can give me is to get training before I ever buy a gun. He says most gun store clerks steer women toward smaller guns. But he says the smaller guns have more recoil and are harder to shoot. He says you will get better accuracy with a bigger gun. You should buy some training and get lessons with a good instructor. You will get a chance to try out several guns.

LEGAL ISSUES

Can I carry it in my purse? He says you can, but you have to have a concealed weapons permit. He does say you can carry it in your car because it's an extension of your house. But he says don't make the mistake of keeping it in your glove box. "You won't be able to get to it if you need it". He always keeps it in a holster on his person. "If I have on pants, I have on a gun". Tom says the concealed carry class will cost about $100 and the permit costs about $100. You can hear Tom Gresham's Gun Talk® show on 710 KEEL Sunday afternoons from 1-4pm.
