Monday is President's Day. We pause to honor  past presidents. What is open and closed today?

It began in the 1800's to honor our first President, George Washington who was born on February 22nd. But it's now celebrated to also honor Abraham Lincoln. In fact Congress passed a measure in the 1960's called the Uniform Monday Holiday Act to set a series of Mondays as Federal Holidays.

The Uniform Monday Holiday Act also included a provision to combine the celebration of Washington’s Birthday with Abraham Lincoln’s, which had been a state holiday in Illinois. Groups eventually agreed to put the two days together as one federal holiday.

Presidents’ Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents past and present. It's held on the 3rd Monday of February each year.
