When Does Daylight Saving Time Begin and End?

It’s that time of year when we set our clocks back one hour as Daylight Saving Time will end at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2013.

We will finally gain back that hour of sleep that we lost back in the spring.

Daylight Saving Time was created as a way to as a way to have better use of daylight during evening hours. This is done by setting out clocks forward or ahead by one hour during the summer because the days are longer and then setting them back one hour in the fall. It is also known as “Summer Time”, “DST” or “Daylight Savings Time”.

How to Know When to Go Forward or Backward

To remember if you should set your clack forward or backward, just remember this simple saying: “spring forward or fall back.”

Start and End Dates for Daylight Saving Time

The start date is the second Sunday in March and runs to the first Sunday in November.

How Did Daylight Saving Time Begin?

It was suggested first by Benjamin Franklin in 1784, but wasn’t proposed until 1895 to the Wellington Philosophical Society and was eventually adopted and implemented in 1916. Several countries in Europe who initially rejected the idea.
