On November 6, citizens across the United States will vote in the 2012 election. For first-time Shreveport-Bossier voters eager to join in the democratic process, new residents and lapsed voters alike, registering is the first big step to ensure your voice is heard on election day.

Here’s where Shreveport and Bossier residents can sign up to cast their ballot before the October 9 deadline.

Caddo Parish residents can register to vote in person at the Caddo Parish Registrar of Voters office, located at 525 Marshall Street, Suite # 103, Shreveport, LA 71101. They can also pick up a Louisiana voter registration application at Shreve Memorial Library and mail it to the Registrar’s office at P.O. Box 1253, Shreveport, LA 71163. Faxed registration forms are not accepted.

Bossier Parish’s Registrar of Voters is located at 204 Burt Blvd., Room #103, Benton, Louisiana 71006. Voters can mail in their completed registration applications to P. O. Box 635 Benton, LA 71006-0635.

Internet-savvy patriots can print out a registration form online here. Once completed, it should be delivered personally to their respective Registrar of Voters offices or simply mailed in to their respective parish’s Registrar of Voters office.

Social service centers are also viable registration locations, which includes departments of social services such as Medicaid offices, Deaf Action Centers, Independent Living offices, military recruitment offices, WIC offices and Food Stamp offices.

Additionally, residents can visit their local Office of Motor Vehicles to register to vote. In Shreveport, it’s located at 9310 Normandie Drive, Shreveport, LA 71118. In Bossier, it’s at 3802 Kilpatrick Boulevard, Bossier, LA 71112.

The full list of Louisiana’s Registrar of Voters locations can be found here.

In order to register to vote, you must be: a United States citizen; at least 17 years old to register (but 18 years old to vote); not be under an order of imprisonment for conviction of a felony; not be under a judgment of full interdiction or limited interdiction where your right to vote has been suspended; and must reside in the state and parish in which you seek to register and vote.

Registrants are required to bring a Louisiana driver’s license or their birth certificate. Otherwise, any piece of formal documentation that provides age, identity and residency is acceptable. On Election Day, voters must produce a Louisiana driver’s license, Louisiana Special ID card or any other generally recognized form of photo identification.
