What's a Sister City? Well, it's a way to bring the world together. But in a more non-mushy sense, it's a way for people across the globe to connect in a direct relationship about governance, cultural understanding, and economic benefits.

There are thousands of sister-city combos across the globe. I grew up situated between a dozen cities who had Sister Cities all over. From Switzerland to Japan. Growing up, I thought EVERY city had a Sister City.

But it's come to my attention that Shreveport, and Bossier City for that matter, don't have a Sister City.

In a loose way we do, the city of Nice, France is a Sister City for the entire state of Louisiana, but the cities themselves do not have matches. Which is odd in a way, because many of the cities in the state of Louisiana do have their own. Check out these combos:

Baton Rouge:

Córdoba,  Mexico

Taichung,  Taiwan

Lafayatte:

Le Cannet,  France

Lake Charles:

Perpignan, France

Sioux City, Iowa, United States

New Orleans:

Caracas, Venezuela;

Holdfast Bay,  Australia

Innsbruck, Austria

Maracaibo, Venezuela

Matsue,  Japan

Mérida,  Mexico

Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo

Tegucigalpa, Honduras

With this huge list of Louisiana Sister Cities, it really makes you wonder why Shreveport or Bossier doesn't have one? Would it change our fortunes right away? No. Would it be something fun that could maybe boost the morale of a city as a whole? Why not try it to find out?
