I was one of those who thought these babies would disappear with Blockbuster until this idea was presented to me.

Ever drive down the street and see a payphone? Ever see anyone using it? Exactly. We still see payphones across our area, but never see them being put to use. So, like many other gadget or establishments, wouldn't you think they would finally be put in the grave?

Not unless they are re-purposed.

There is a site in which you can locate all of the payphones that are available in Shreveport-Bossier City. Payphone-Project.com will give you a list of all of the locations for these phones and even give you the number associated with them. There are quite a few (understatement) in the Ark-La-Tex.

After looking further into this I found that many cities across the country are implementing PIPs. These are Public Interest Payphones. The idea is that these phones are available for people to use in emergencies. Of course, you can use them for whatever you want at a cost, but if you are using them for emergency situations, then the call is free.

It may be 2016, but not everyone has a cell phone.

So, it would seem that payphones will be in our midst for the foreseeable future. Call it vintage, retro, or even nostalgic.
