Unfortunately, Shreveport wasn't the only place shots rang out during a Mardi Gras Parade.  The Krewe of Bacchus Parade in New Orleans was interrupted by gunfire Sunday night that left one person dead, and at least four others injured.

WWL-TV in New Orleans reported that at least a dozen shots rang out during Sunday night's parade where three males, as well as one woman, and a young girl were hit by gunfire.  One of the males later died from his injuries.

According to reports from the NOPD, the shooting occured near the St. Charles Avenue parade route around 9:30 PM in front of the Hoshun Restaurant, just yards away from where the crowds were lined up by the street where the parade was taking place.

Two guns have been recovered from the scene, and one person is in custody. NOPD believe this person is the shooter, although police haven't said whether or not he is the only shooter involved.  Police were called to several skirmishes in the area prior to the shooting that had to be broken up.

"We don't know what happened prior to that, but we did hear gunshots and our officers responded as well as other agencies very quickly. And we were able to find two weapons on scene and also apprehend what we believe to be the shooter," NOPD Deputy Chief Hans Ganthier said.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at (504) 822-1111.
