Assumption Parish in south Louisiana is the quintessential 'bayou country', home to such swampy waterways as Corne Bayou. Well, for the past year or so, the residents of the area have, as one local put it, seen the ground open up 'and swallow our lives.'

Many in the region think the rash of sinkholes is caused by the 750 ft deep salt mine owned by Texas Brine. So many, in fact, that the state of Louisiana is suing Texas Brine for what it terms 'environmental devastation' to the area.

The video taken Wednesday, shows the latest destruction, as the ground under the bayou collapses and more and more of the area, literally, disappears.
