Anna Kendrick Sits With the Misfits in First ‘Table 19’ Trailer
Few moments in life are as revealing as the one where you find your dinner table at a wedding reception. So many things are suddenly brought into focus: whether your self-image is accurate or not, where you stand in the hierarchy of your friendships, and, most importantly, whether the bride and groom are really and truly worth the planet ticket and hotel room costs you just forked over. Everyone has been to a wedding where they are the odd person out and found themselves speaking to the childhood babysitter or the Semester at Sea acquaintance while starring longingly at the front of the dining room. It happens to everyone. It will happen to you.
Of course, very few of these misfit tables can match the star power of Table 19, the newest comedy by Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass. If I were invited to a wedding and found myself seated next to Anna Kendrick, Stephen Merchant, Craig Robinson, and Lisa Kudrow (among others), I’d wager that my wedding experience would probably run circles of even that of the bride and groom. Still, if we grant the premise that this is indeed the table of undesirables, then Table 19 promises a fun update of the The Breakfast Club formula, with the universality of the high school experience translated to the universality of the wedding guest experience. And since this is the product of the Duplass brothers, we can expect a degree of maturity and introspection usually missing from these sort of ensemble comedies.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Ex-maid of honor Eloise — having been relieved of her duties after being unceremoniously dumped by the best man via text — decides to attend the wedding anyway only to find herself seated with 5 “random” guests at the dreaded Table 19.
Table 19 is set for release on January 20, 2017.
