A Barksdale Air Force Base airman has died from injuries sustained after an auto accident on Jan 2.

Senior Airman Eli Cook, a B-52H Stratofortress assistant dedicated crew chief, was pronounced dead on Wednesday at LSUS Health Science Center, according to a BAFB press release.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Eli and our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time,” 2nd Bomb Wing commander Col. Kristin E. Goodwin said.

A private memorial service will be held on base and is closed to the media, out of respect for Cook and the 2nd Bomb Wing families and the accident is under investigation.

Cook joined the U.S. Air Force in January 2013, completed technical training in July 2013 and was immediately assigned to Barksdale’s 2nd Bomb Wing.
During that time, Cook directly supported the 2nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron’s 11th Aircraft Maintenance Unit and was a known leader among his peers, Lt. Col. Michael Hammack, 2nd AMXS commander said.
2nd Bomb Wing mental and spiritual health professionals are working with those affected by the loss.
