Christina Aguilera's  performance of  The Star Spangled Banner was loud and brilliant, but the lyrics were wrong.

No doubt DVRs were being re-wound like crazy as Aguilera, who sang The Star Spangled Banner, mistakenly repeated a phrase early in the song.

Instead of singing, "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming," the pop star sang, "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming?" (changing "hailed" to "watched" the second time around).

UPDATE: Aguilera issued a statement after the show, saying, "I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."

Here are the correct lyrics:

Oh,  say can you see by the dawn's early light

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,

O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?

And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.

Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
