What is the old saying about building a better mousetrap? "Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door", it's attributed to renowned author and thinker Ralph Waldo Emerson. However, I don't think even a mind like Mr. Emerson's could have created the kind mouse trap that is about to be deployed in some sections of New York City.

I guess we should clarify that we are really talking about rat traps and not really mousetraps. While there is certainly a mouse problem in New York and in almost every other major metropolitan area it is nothing compared to the rat problem cities like New York, Houston, and New Orleans are facing.

Enter the Ekomille. It's a specially designed rat exterminating device that lures the rodents in with food as bait. Once the creatures have entered the device a trap door opens dropping the rodent into a container filled with alcohol. The solution eventually knocks the rodent out and the creature eventually drowns.

If you're into rats getting whacked you can watch a demo of the device right here.

The city of New York has invested $32 million in rat abatement plans and this is the latest effort of that spending. The Ekomille is being rolled out over the next several weeks in some of Brooklyn's most highly infested neighborhoods. If the product lives up to its reputation there could be an even larger deployment of the devices throughout the city.

I just want to see what's going to happen when they drop a box full of booze in front of the rats of New Orleans. Those creatures are already hardened drinkers, well most likely they are, and who knows how effective this kind of trap would be in a city that prides itself on being slightly less than sober a good deal of the time.
