An amazing story out of Bossier when Bossier Police were called to the scene of a suspicious person on the Shreveport-Barksdale bridge Tuesday afternoon (6/2/21).

The first officer on the scene of the call spotted a clearly distressed woman stepping over the railing of the bridge to the ledge over the fast-flowing Red River. After this, the woman looked as though she were going to jump, when the officer made a quick move and grabbed the woman to prevent her from falling.

Bossier City Police Cpl. Mathew Bragg was quoted as saying, “All I could do was just grab her and put all my weight down to keep her from falling.” Soon after, Officer Brandon Bailey arrived on the scene, but their efforts still weren't enough to pull the woman from the ledge. Before more officers could arrive a passing motorist saw the struggle and got out to help. The two officers and the citizen were able to safely pull the distraught woman from the ledge and keep her from falling to her death.

Both officers are grateful to the good Samaritan who stopped to help them save the woman. The woman had no physical injuries. She was transported to WK Bossier for evaluation.

Chief Shane McWilliams says, “The officers put their lives on the line to protect the woman’s life. I commend them for their quick response and offer my gratitude to the good Samaritan who stopped to help them.”
