The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Narcotics Task Force spot-checked eight local businesses this week to see if they were compliant with regard to alcohol sales.

At some point, we've all been there. Before you were of legal drinking age, most of us wanted to get our hands on some booze. Back in the day when I grew up, it was easier, because the legal drinking age in Louisiana was 18-years-old. We'd just ask a senior or an older brother or sister to buy it for us. These days, it's a bit harder for kids to get their hands on alcohol now that the legal drinking in Louisiana matches federal law requiring one to be at least 21-years-old to purchase or consume alcohol.

To help ensure our youngsters aren't getting into trouble, law enforcement will send someone underage into local stores to see if the clerk will verify that they are at least 21-years-old. The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Narcotics Task Force did just that Thursday, June 2nd, 2022, and checked eight stores in Bossier Parish. Thankfully, only one of the eight stores was cited for underage alcohol sales. The store cited for selling to a minor was Reynold's Grocery in Haughton on LA 157 near Bellevue Road. The seven stores that were compliant include:

· Dixie Mart at Hwy. 3 Benton Rd/Burt Blvd
· Kingston Market at Hwy. 3/Kingston Rd.
· Country Junction at Hwy. 3/Hwy. 162
· Country Corner at Linton Rd./Parks Rd.
· Rogers Corner Store at Hwy. 80/Hwy. 157
· Dixie Mart at Hwy. 80/Hwy. 614
· Food Mart at Airline/Wemple

Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington says, "We make these checks periodically to make sure the stores are complying with the law. This is just one way we can ensure the safety of our young people in our parish."
