This video features Karen Klein, a 68-year-old bus monitor in Rochester, NY. This video, if you haven't heard about it or seen it, is VERY disturbing. Kids on this bus verbally torture her until she cries. These young teen kids make her cry by saying absolutely evil things -- from calling her fat and ugly to joking about her son who had committed suicide.

The question that comes to my mind:

1.)  Where are the parents of those kids?

2.) As a parent, what would I do, if it was my kid doing this?

3.) What would I have done, if I witnessed this happen?

I reflected with honesty as to how this made me feel and what I would do:

1.) I will tell you where many of those parents are (not all); those kinds of parents that think every kids needs to be given an award for participation. They graduate from grade to grade, the don't matriculate, like we did when were kids. They have coddled their kids, where actions have no consequences. They have given their kids everything and don't teach them to say "thank you" or "please" for any of it. These are the parents that don't teach their kids to respect their elders or authority, that being smart is good and cool, that homework is important, that watching too much TV is a bad thing, that going to school is a job and that just because it feels good, doesn't mean you should do it.

2.)  As a parent, I would tan my child's behind. I would punish them for the next 12 months. I would not allow my child to hang out with the kids that were in that group, period. I would also make my child begin working for the next 12 months for Ms. Klein, cleaning her house, yard, odd jobs, etc., in order to teach them respect.  I would also make sure my child had no free time over the next 12 months to spend with their friends, it would be taken up by their chores at home and Ms. Klein's, sports, music lessons, etc. I would also not allow my child to watch TV for the next 12 months.

3.) If I was witness to this, I would have stepped in and told the driver to stop the bus, grabbed each of the kids by the collar/arm/or any appendage that would allow me to drag them off the bus, and have the driver take the rest of the kids home. I would call each kid's parent and tell them where the bus had stopped and dropped them (and me holding them) off and for the parent's to pick up the kids, while notifying them that I was going to spank their kids, regardless if I got sued for it.  (If the parent said they would do it for me, I would gladly wait for them to arrive.

The video has been picked up by internet bloggers who felt sorry for her and decided that she needed a vacation from that crap. They started a collection that will go straight to Klein for a vacation. Turns out it will end up paying for more than just a vacation, as the fund has exceeded $190,000 as of this writing.

Klein was on Fox and Friends this morning, and when they told her how much was in the account she was visibly overwhelmed. Keep in mind that she only makes $15,000/year.

This comes down to one thing: RESPECT.

Too many people have no respect for themselves and no respect for others.  Everyone demands respect, but too few people try to earn it. Few people attempt to teach it or lead by example.

What does speak volumes? Karen Klein has come out and said that she feels sorry for these kids. Talk about turning the other cheek. I don't think I could be as forgiving.

UPDATE:

- The find for Karen Klein, as of 6/22 at 8:00am....$470,000

- Karen is still not going to press charges against the kids, but the school has said they will be punishing them

- The kids still have not apologized.
