Comedian Andy Dick had quite the adventure in New Orleans over the weekend.

He performed at the One Eyed Jacks nightclub on Toulouse Street in the French Quarter early Saturday when he claims he was knocked to the ground outside the club and lost consciousness.

Guitarist-singer Paris Dylan, who performed with Dick at the club, said that after the show the duo met with fans and posed for photos as they usually do, then stepped out of the club where a crowd awaited.

As Dick prepared to enter an Uber, Dylan said the 53-year-old was "sucker-punched" by an assailant. Dylan said Dick hit a motorcycle as he fell to the ground and then his head struck the pavement.

Dylan said he was unable to communicate with Dick, as he appeared unconscious as he lay on his back.

Dick said that he was "knocked out 100 percent for 15 minutes." He was taken to a hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit and observed for what he described as a "possible brain bleed."

It's unknown as to what the assailant's motive was. Robert Couvillion, who was the promoter for the comedian's New Orleans appearances, said there was no reason for anyone to attack him.

"Andy was on his best behavior," Couvillion told NOLA.com. "Some of his shows are a little wilder. Every show is different. This show was mostly storytelling. He didn't disrespect anyone."

Couvillion said that he and another man ran after the attacker, but he escaped.

The New Orleans Police Department said yesterday that they are investigating "a possible assault" on Dick following a complaint with the agency.

Couvillion said someone did recognize the attacker and that name was turned into law enforcement. It's still unclear if that man is considered a suspect in the case.

Dick was scheduled to perform at an outdoor venue for Saturday's Red Dress Run but had to cancel that appearance.

He did, however, show up in a decorated wheelchair at a concert for the Art Garage on Sunday evening. He was unable to perform but he wanted to show up for the fans.
