Governor John Bel Edwards announced Monday that Baton Rouge would host the College Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony this November. Which is kind of a big deal. The event is expected to draw more than 500 ballplayers and guests. Former LSU coach and athletic director, Skip Bertman, will present the award for coach of the year...which is named in his honor.

All that is pretty awesome. But, maybe even bigger, is the potential that Baton Rouge could become the permanent home of the College Baseball Hall of Fame. Originally, the museum was supposed to be built in Lubbock, Texas...but that deal fell apart for whatever reason. Now, many experts believe that Baton Rouge could be the front runner for the new facility.

Which makes total sense. Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge has lead the nation in attendance for College games for 23 consecutive seasons. The Governor, more or less, said that he hopes this event is the start of a long term relationship with the College Baseball Foundation. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser added: “We’re sure, after this event and they get a taste of our hospitality and great seafood, they’ll have nowhere else to locate that hall of fame."

Whether or not we land this thing, I guess only time will tell. But, the fact Louisiana is starting to be considered for major projects and businesses again is pretty awesome.
