East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore told news outlets he doesn't think the criminal justice system "needs to be involved in this matter" involving state Sen. Karen Carter Peterson. He says Peterson doesn't pose a public safety threat.

The New Orleans Democrat was reportedly ejected from L'Auberge Casino and Hotel on Feb. 27 by the Louisiana State Police and given a misdemeanor citation.

After news of the citation became public, Peterson released a statement acknowledging she is a compulsive gambler. She said two years ago she voluntarily put her name on a list of people banned from Louisiana gambling establishments.
