Shailene Woodley Confirms Staying ‘Divergent’ From ‘Ascendant’ TV Show

A soft plateau to the Divergent film franchise gave way to finishing Ascendant as a TV movie, though stars like Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Miles Teller quickly offered their doubts on participating in a TV wrap-up. Now, Woodley affirms the finality of her distance from the project, despite an upcoming TV role.

Where previously the Secret Life of the American Teenager and upcoming Big Little Lies star made explicit her interest in continuing the Divergent story only as a film, Woodley reiterated to Vanity Fair that “No … I’m not going to be on the television show.”

Woodley previously stated of a possible return “I didn’t sign up to be in a television show,” while Theo James noted “actors that have been in the three movies probably won’t be in whatever it evolves to in the future.” Miles Teller offered a less conclusive “At this point, it’s a different set of circumstances. We’ll see. I honestly haven’t talked to anybody.” The film previously tapped director Lee Toland Krieger to make a June 2017 premiere, while Lionsgate has offered few updates on the proposed TV transition.

No fixed plans have come to light, but should any of the film stars sign on for the TV conclusion, or is Lionsgate better off recasting? Is it worth spinning off the Divergent franchise at all?
