Over the years, there have been some truly amazing comic book related TV series and movies. From the original Punisher movie to Batman the Animated series to the MCU, comic books have been brought to the masses in some of the most amazing and innovative ways.

However, when people talk about the best cartoons or series or movies, one title is always conspicuously absent: HBO's 'Todd McFarlane's Spawn'. In case you've forgotten, back in 1997...WAY before there was a 'Watchmen' series on HBO, there was an adult animated series based on the Spawn comic books. And, it is absolutely incredible and criminally underrated.

Starring Keith David as Al Simmons/Spawn, the series ran for 3 seasons and won an Emmy. However, despite the overwhelmingly positive response and critical acclaim, the show never really found the audience it was looking for. That probably had a lot to do with the fact it aired at midnight on HBO during an era when HBO wasn't in most to all households.

If you're a fan of Spawn, Image Comic books or just animated series and movies, this is a must watch for you. Thanks in large part to Amazon Prime and HBO, the show has gained more viewership as it's more accessible now than it's ever been. In fact, popularity of the show has increased so much, in addition to a new Spawn feature film, the 'Todd-father' is considering an animated show revival.

Just let it be known if you're watching this for the first time...this is Spawn. This an HBO product. It's very dark, gritty and adult oriented...so maybe don't let the little ones watch this with you.
