After suffering a heartbreaking loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Drew Brees has presumably played his last game in the NFL. It was reported by Jay Glazer before the post season game, Drew himself was spotted telling Jameis Winston "this is your team now"...all signs are pointing to retirement for the future Hall of Fame quarterback. However, in a postgame interview, Drew said he was going to take a bit to reflect and think before making a decision.

However, according to several reports coming out today, Brees went through A LOT to attempt to reach the Super Bowl one more time before he retired. WWL in New Orleans is reporting that on top of the broken ribs and collapsed lung, Brees played through several other major injuries that would generally end a quarterback's season. WWL says that Brees was also suffering from a torn rotator cuff and torn fascia in his foot. The station is citing his wife Brittany's Instagram as a source for the information, however her account is set to private.

Below is a screenshot of Brittany's post from Garland Gillen of FOX8 in New Orleans:

Given the tone of the his wife's statement, the previous reports of his retirement and the way he was acting with his teammates and rivals this year...I can't imagine we'll see Brees suit up in a Saints uniform in 2021.

However, no matter what Drew decides to do, the guy is an absolute legend. Not only did he bring hope and success to a fledgling sports franchise. But, he provided hope and a much needed distraction to a city and state dealing with the fall out of Hurricane Katrina and Rita. He gave all of himself to the Saints and to the City of New Orleans. When people talk about 'franchise players' they are talking about guys like Drew - someone who is just as successful on the field as off it. Our hats are off to you Drew. You will be missed.
