Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Holly Hill Equestrian Center in Benton, LA wasn't able to hold their annual spring horse trials, however, they held a combined training event over the weekend and it was awesome!

There's always great energy at Holly Hill but this weekend, it was even better than ever. I think folks were grateful to be able to get out and show after a long offseason.  Mother Nature even cooperated, serving up fantastic weather the entire weekend!

If you're not exactly sure what a combined training event is, it's a shortened three-day event. Instead of competing in dressage, show jumping, and cross country, competitors only compete in the dressage and show jumping phases. This weekend at Holly Hill, participants also had the option to school their horses on the gorgeous cross country course.

If you'd like to learn more about the sport of eventing, I was able to help with a fun video for the show Horse Country at Holly Hill several years ago in conjunction with KMSS Fox 33 and it gives a great overview of the sport.

I was personally blessed to be a part of this event as the announcer this weekend while my fabulous trainer, Julie Norman, competed with my mare Kappa Sweetheart in her debut at the Novice level. It was a huge division with lots of entries, but after all was said and done, she placed 7th! I'm so very proud of them! Check out some of the pictures that myself and my friends captured this weekend and make plans to join us for the next event at Holly Hill, even if you're just there as a spectator to watch this exciting sport!
