Feds Investigating LSU Over Sexual Misconduct Claims
According to at least two sources, Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge is being investigated by federal authorities for a lack of action takes following several sexual assault complaints.
The LSU newspaper, Reveille, reports that The U.S. Department of Education is looking to see if the school LSU violated the Clery Act, mandating that universities to report on-campus, sexually related crimes.
And who is the focus of the feds attention? Again, from the Reveille:
"The investigation...will focus on LSU Athletics and Greek Life, according to a Feb. 2 letter written to Interim President Thomas Galligan from the Department of Education."
The investigation comes on the heels of an a USA Today story claiming that the college had mishandled sexual assault complaints. A number of women, including former student Samantha Brennan, alleged that they were assaulted or abused by students, including athletes and said LSU did not fully investigate their cases.
A report from wafb.com says that "Brennan claimed 2016, during her time as an LSU student, Derrius Guice, still a member of the university’s football team, took a nude photo of her without permission and shared it with others."
WAFB also says that the university has acknowledged the investigation, saying in a statement, “campus safety and the well-being of those at LSU is always our priority, and following Clery guidelines for reporting and notifying the campus community is an important part of crime prevention that we take seriously.”
