Female Vets Honored Wednesday for Veteran’s Day
Wednesday, November 11, 2020, is Veteran's Day, the day we celebrate those who have put themselves in harm's way in service of our great country, the United States of America. It's also the day they'll unveil the new monument to women Veterans here in the Ark-La-Tex!
When I think of the female vets in my life, I think of people like my friends Tracy Herrin or Lori Lambert. They're both so different, but they're both strong, confident, kind, and capable. When I think of someone who I would want in my corner in life, they're definitely at the top of the list. So are all of the other women vets in the Ark-La-Tex who will see themselves honored publicly when they dedicate the new Louisiana Women Veterans Monument tomorrow. The dedication will take place at 10 am where the statue is located, in front of the Bossier Civic Center. Believe it or not, this is the first monument in the south dedicated to women veterans and service members from all five branches of the military.
The unveiling of this monument is the culmination of three years of work on behalf of the Women Veterans of the Ark-La-Tex and the ceremony will honor all vets. The statue is the creation of artist and sculptor Jerry Gorum and Jerry Jones. The ceremony is open to the public, however social distancing and mask-wearing will be enforced.
