For whatever reason, the New Orleans Saints seem to be against drafting players from LSU in the NFL Draft. Since the 1988 NFL, so three decades, the team has only drafted FIVE LSU players. Which includes this weekend's selection of LSU Offensive Lineman Will Clapp.

Prior to the selection of Clapp in the 7th Round, Defensive Tackle Al Woods was the last LSU Tiger drafted by the Saints, and that was in the 2010 NFL Draft. Woods never actually played for the Saints, he was cut in September of 2010.

Before that it was Wide Receiver Devery Henderson back in 2004, who ended up being a very productive member of the Saints, helping to bring a Super Bowl Championship to the franchise.

The other two LSU players taken by the Saints are Nicky Savoie (6th Round, 1997) and Mike Mayes (4th Round, 1989). Savoie had only one catch in his NFL career, and Mayes only spent one season in New Orleans (only three total seasons in the NFL).

Interestingly, going all the way back to the start of the franchise, the Saints have NEVER drafted an LSU star in the first round. Even when they've had chances to..like the 1998 Draft when the Saints took Kyle Turley instead of Alan Faneca. All Faneca did was make 9 Pro Bowls, was a 6-time All Pro, and won a Super Bowl.

The Saints themselves are aware of it, but when Coach Sean Payton was asked about ti this weekend, he said it's not something they pay attention to.
