Tonight, at the Hamilton-South Caddo Library from 6 to 8 p.m., Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana (PCAL) will be hosting a free workshop on detecting and reporting child sexual abuse.  This is part of a statewide push to end this horrible crime.  In fact, all around the Bayou State workshops exactly like this one will be held to teach adults what to look for signs of abuse, who to report it to, and how to prevent it.

According to PCAL, 1 in 4  girls, and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18.  Even more disturbing is the fact that 90% of sexual abuse a child faces comes from someone they know.

The workshop will feature videos and stories from survivors, which are going to be extremely difficult to hear - but necessary to tell the full story.  The hope is, the material and personnel on hand will spur healthy discussion and encourage those who have seen signs of abuse to speak up.

If you suspect or know of abuse, please call the 24 hour KIDLINE at 1-800-244-5373.
