Governor John Bel Edwards has signed an executive order that bans discrimination against members of the LBGT community who work for the state or receive services from the state. The Governor's actions follow in the foot steps of former Democrat governors Edwin Edwards and Kathleen Blanco with one major exception: Governor Edwards executive order has language spelling out explicitly the inclusion of trasngendered people, the first of its kind in our state.

Matthew Patterson, with Equality Louisiana, says it's an historic day for Louisiana. "It represents a massive change from the policies of the previous administration.  We could not be more pleased right this minute.", Patterson says, noting, "As we have worked toward issuing a new order with a new governor, our highest priority was insuring that the full LGBT community was included here."
