Ahead of a camping adventure with my kiddos, I wanted to list the best camping spots around town!

There's absolutely nothing like the great outdoors. Myself, I'm certainly no "outdoorsman" to say the very least, but after my first camping trip with the family last year, we absolutely fell in love with it.

Now, let me say that I hope you and I both agree on what is camping and what isn't. Personally, I don't care if you're staying in a cabin in the woods or a tent next to a lake, I consider both camping. My family enjoys a nice cabin camping trip, and friends were messing with me saying it wasn't really camping, but I completely disagree.

Having said that, below are my favorite camping spots within a reasonable driving distance!

  • 1

    Lake Claiborne

This is the spot I take my girls whenever I can. It's just a nice thirty minute drive away and it's absolutely beautiful out there. We love to hike the trails and fish on the beautiful body of water. We always stay in a cabin that's right next to the lake, and I will forever recommend Lake Claiborne to anyone who asks about camping spots!

    Shreveport-Bossier KOA

I absolutely love this award winning campground. It's the shortest drive on this list, located in Shreveport on W. 70th Street near Pines road. It's a beautiful campground, with a playground for the kiddos, and cabins and RV sections available. Shreveport-Bossier KOA is absolutely wonderful.

    BlackWater Jacks

Anytime I've ever asked anyone for camping recommendations, someone absolutely always talks up BlackWater Jacks. This campgorund is located just a short drive away in Karnack, TX. The scenery is like straight out of a movie, with stunning RV Campsites and immaculate cabins for rental. Personally, I've taken their riverboat tour and it's absolutely wonderful.

    Gavel Falls

Beautiful Gavel Falls is the second entry on this list that's located right here in Shreveport, off of Highway 1. Gavel Falls has the RV sites, the cabins, the water, and the scenery any camper would be looking for. They recently expanded on their grounds, adding not just one but two fully-stocked fishing ponds.

    Lake Bistineau State Park

I am an absolute sucker for camping near a lake. To me, that is the only true criteria I look for when it comes to picking out the next camping spot for the girls and me. Lake Bistineau's State Park is home to truly stunning camping in perfect scenery. It's camping for the simple man, and you can't go wrong with a trip to Lake Bistineau.
