Happy Veterans Day – Get the History of Veterans Day Here

Today is Veterans Day. It's the day we set aside each year to honor the service of all U.S. military service members from all five branches when truthfully, Veterans Day should be every single day of the year.

Think about what you've done today. All those fun things you're free to do... they came at a cost. The cost of lost loved ones, time away from family and friends, injury, and more. Think about that today. If you see someone in uniform, thank them. As an Air Force brat, I remember how much a simple thank you meant to my late father, Lt. Col Robert DeWerff USAF. Make someone's day and let them know how much you appreciate their sacrifice and make sure to say a prayer for those we've lost.

My mother found the picture of my father that I've posted above a few years ago in a photo album she uncovered of my father's. It was from when he first joined the Air Force and before his two tours in Vietnam. Thank you, Daddy!

• Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day.
• Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States, which means banks are closed and there's no mail delivery from the United States Postal Service.
• Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
• Armistice Day is celebrated in other countries to commemorate the end of WWI
• World War I was formally considered over on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. That's when the Armistice with Germany went into effect.
• Memorial Day honors those who have died while in service, while Veterans Day honors all members of the military past and present.
• Armed Forces Day honors military members who are currently serving.
