Big Mac's Legacy Lingers

The Center for Science in the Public Interest turns 40 this year.  This is the group that studies are food consumption habits.  You might remember this group for pointing out the problems with movie popcorn a few years ago.  They have also questioned are attachment to fast food.  In 1971, McDonald’s Big Mac was four years old.  The company invented it to compete with a large two-patty hamburger sold by rival Big Boy. Today, the Big Mac doesn’t seem so big. Its 540 calories are dwarfed by, among others, Burger King’s Whopper (670 calories), McDonald’s Angus burgers (750 to 790 calories), and Wendy’s Bacon Deluxe Triple hamburger (1,150 calories).  Tomorrow, I'll show you another part of this report that has to do with how much we eat.
